Police post

You do, sometimes, have to give organisations full marks for creative thinking and ingenuity in a time of cuts and financial crisis.

The Police can’t afford many policemen and women, but they have realised that putting up posters saying they are tackling crime is just as much of a deterrent as having real officers out and about.

Local burglaries

Regrettably the posters don’t always work:  we have seen a recent spate of crime in nearby areas. There have been four burglaries in Grimsargh overnight on the 4th / 5th March where bicycles and electrical goods were stolen from sheds and garages.  A garage in Stanley Croft, Broughton has also been broken into.

Please be vigilant, look out for suspicious behaviour,  and keep sheds, garages and vehicles locked.  Don’t hesitate to report anything suspicious to the local police team, you can contact Broughton Police Station on 01772 863 390.

Update: recovered property.

Chris Banks tells us he has recovered some property which may have been stolen from the Grimsargh area. A childs bike and adult mountain bike, Sat Nav and jewelry. Please can you check and if you have anything similar missing please get in touch with Chris at Broughton for more details

Recent daytime burglaries

Dear All,

Most of you will be aware through the email alert scheme of the 3 recent day time burglaries that have occurred in Goosnargh and Woodplumpton villages.

More information has come to light in relation to the two burglaries in Goosnargh Village which occurred Monday this week.

We know from speaking to people that two males were seen visiting address in the area going door to door stating they were roofing contractors and advertising for business. We need to get hold of any information or leaflets that they may have left or posted through doors. We believe the pair could assist us with our enquires. Both were mid to late 20’s, one heavy set the other slim; both in dark clothing but one in particular had his hood up with a cap underneath; the jacket was possibly Helly Hansen in make.

Please be extra vigilant at the moment and report any suspicious activity to Preston Police on 101 straight away or to us at Broughton on 863390.

Please be assured we are doing everything we can to catch who is responsible for these offences and are following up all the information that is passed to us.

Burglaries in the rural area are rare and we want to keep it this way. Your information is invaluable to us so please do report anything however small or insignificant as this could lead to us apprehending the offenders.

Thank you

Chris

From The School newsletter:

Long-standing parents of Whitechapel pupils may be wondering about when Pancake Day is, this term. New parents also need to know about this local tradition which we try our best to uphold each year. It’s quite unique to Whitechapel and sometimes falls within the half term holiday. Not so, this year!

For many years, the custom of “Pancaking” continues in Whitechapel with the primary school children calling on all the houses in the district saying, “Please, a pancake”. Oranges, sweets, coins are given in answer to this plea so all the locals need to know of this and have a supply ready.

We think the custom originates from when the children of poor labourers went to the “big house” or houses of the wealthier farmers, asking for pancakes and were sometimes given actual pancakes and other time ingredients/toppings so that their mothers could make them.

This continuing tradition, of course, relies upon our families now, to be able to uphold. School is open, all staff will be here but I am perfectly happy for parents who are able to, to take groups of children along Church Lane to call on our neighbours. I will need to know specifically who will be in school, who will be out and with whom.

Perhaps, you and yours, can be thinking about this now, so that next week we can finalise arrangements. School also needs to inform neighbours. Pauline Clayton (Paul’s mum) usually kindly warns traffic on the road with signs that groups of children will be about. P.C. Banks is usually in attendance, also.
